White Horse traces its roots to Edinburgh, where in 1880 James Logan Mackie founded his whisky trading company. The brand takes its name from the White Horse Inn, a historic coaching inn in Edinburgh's Canongate, owned by the Mackie family since 1650 and the starting point of the stagecoach route to London. His nephew Peter Mackie joined the business in 1890 and took White Horse to international prominence - a man of such restless ambition that his contemporaries simply called him "Restless Peter".
At the heart of every bottle is Lagavulin, a single malt from the island of Islay, which gives White Horse its unmistakable character: full-bodied and peaty, with notes of oak, caramel, and creamy vanilla. The blend balances Islay malts with whiskies from other Scottish regions, producing a dram with a distinct personality and a long, complex finish.
In 2006, White Horse was named Blended Whisky of the Year in Jim Murray's Whisky Bible.
