What is aged rum

Aged rum is rum that has spent not months but years in the barrel, and that's exactly why it has a completely different character from the light rum used in a mojito.

Who it's for

This kind of rum is chosen by people who've already had classic Bacardi or Havana Club in a cocktail and want to try rum "on its own" - like a whisky or cognac, sipped slowly from a tumbler, no ice, no soda. Long aging in oak turns sharp sugar-cane spirit into a drink with notes of caramel, spice, dried fruit and vanilla, and the color shifts from clear or straw to amber or dark honey.

How long rum is aged

There's no single official age standard for rum the way NOM works for tequila or BNIC for cognac - every country and brand sets its own rules.
