ZACAPA CENTENARIO
(1 product)Zacapa Centenari - Discover Guatemala's Premium Rum, Aged Above the Clouds in Chisinau!
Zacapa Centenario was born in 1976 to mark the centenary of the city of Zacapa in eastern Guatemala - a city whose name in the Aztec language means "on the river of grass". What began as a tribute became one of the most celebrated rums in the world. Everything starts in the sugar cane fields grown in Guatemala's volcanic soil, where only the first pressing of the juice is used - no molasses, just pure virgin cane honey. Fermentation uses a yeast strain derived from pineapple, which brings out distinctive floral and fruity aromas from the very first stage.
Ageing takes place at 2,300 metres above sea level in the Casa sobre las Nubes the House Above the Clouds - where cool mountain air slows maturation and deepens the complexity of every distillate. Using the Solera system, rums aged between 6 and 23 years are blended in casks that previously held American whiskey, Spanish sherry, and Pedro Ximénez wine. Every blend is overseen by Master Blender Lorena Vásquez - one of the few women in this role in the world of spirits, working with the brand for over 35 years. Each bottle is hand-wrapped in a petate band, woven by more than 700 Guatemalan artisans, keeping alive a Mayan tradition that spans centuries.
